Every afternoon Open Windows has an interactive learning program that promotes reading, writing, interpreting, listening, and thinking skills. Children are encouraged to express themselves through arts and crafts that are often extensions of the stories they have read. Visitors and volunteers kindly donate many materials. Children may be involved in puppet-making or other handicrafts. This is where the volunteers are usually involved, as they can organize short-term projects with the children. The teachers learn new ways to develop students’ interest in books through literacy workshops.
Afternoon Healthy Snacks
The staff and mothers of our children at Open Windows Learning Center, help to make snacks so children get the crucial vitamins and nutrition they might not otherwise get at home. Snacks are given out every afternoon.
